Planning, Scheduling & Project Controls

Make the plan executable.

Develop integrated execution plans and schedules, test their feasibility and maintain a credible forecast as work progresses and conditions change.

Planning, Scheduling & Project Controls

When to engage Sand Hill

  • You are preparing a project and need an integrated execution plan, a credible schedule and clear requirements for measuring progress and forecasting completion.
  • The schedule looks complete, but its logic or scope is difficult to trust.
  • Engineering, procurement, and field activities are not aligned.
  • Progress reporting is not giving leadership a reliable forecast.

What we do

Develop the integrated execution plan

Define how the work will be carried out across participating organizations, including responsibilities, required information, resources, interfaces and execution constraints. Establish a common basis for developing, testing and updating the schedule.

Build the integrated schedule

Build schedules that represent the execution plan, expose conflicts and provide a basis for progress assessment and forecasting.

Assess execution constraints

Evaluate logic, critical paths, access, shared equipment, and shutdown constraints.

Assess progress and forecast completion

Update the remaining execution forecast against verified progress, changing constraints and available resources, and explain the implications for completion.

Turn findings into action

Translate schedule findings into decisions and actionable priorities.

What you receive

Integrated execution plan

A documented execution approach with responsibilities, interfaces, resource and information requirements, and significant assumptions and constraints.

Integrated schedule

A schedule with defined dependencies, milestones and assumptions, reflecting the execution plan and the constraints affecting completion.

Independent review

Findings on missing scope, weak logic, constraints, and execution exposure.

Forecast & variance report

An assessment of significant variances in progress and forecasts, including their causes and implications for remaining work and completion timing. Findings identify required decisions and unresolved uncertainty.

Controls framework

Agreed responsibilities and procedures for measuring progress, updating forecasts and managing changes, with defined reporting requirements and review intervals.

A few useful questions.

Can Sand Hill review an existing schedule?

Yes. We assess schedule credibility, investigate significant gaps or inconsistencies and recommend corrections. Our findings explain the implications for remaining work, completion timing and project decisions. A review can address baseline quality, forecast changes or a specific execution concern.

Does Sand Hill work directly with contractors?

Yes. We work with contractors as well as owners to develop integrated execution plans, establish project controls and maintain credible forecasts. Our work can address a defined project requirement or strengthen the contractor’s internal planning and controls capability.

Are schedules resource loaded?

Resource loading, resource leveling, and cost integration are defined in the engagement scope. Where resource availability, including the availability of required information, affects the plan, those constraints must remain visible and be represented explicitly.

Specific deliverables, authority, staffing and acceptance requirements are established in the engagement scope.

Establish a credible path to completion.

Discuss the work you need to deliver, the constraints affecting execution and the basis for a credible completion forecast.
