A new boiler installed within an existing structure.

The challenge
A new boiler was being installed within an existing structure. The owner needed a credible assessment of the budget to complete, the schedule and the execution plan as confidence in the project's reported position declined.
Sand Hill's contribution
A two-person Sand Hill team developed a budget to complete and an integrated schedule. Its assessment forecast multimillion-dollar overruns and a completion date at least six months later than the prime contractor indicated.
Sand Hill assessed physical progress together with the applicable contractual payment provisions and found that the prime contractor’s payments exceeded the amount supported by that combined assessment. Sand Hill then helped develop an improved execution plan and compared actual progress against both the contractor's published schedule and its own forecast over several months.
The outcome
Sand Hill supported the owner through the transition to a replacement contractor, who completed the work within the revised budget. The engagement gave the owner an independent basis for evaluating progress and deciding how to bring the project to completion.
How this work connects
Recovering the boiler project protected the owner's investment and restored a credible route to completion. The growth connection is the operating foundation that essential plant infrastructure provides. Independent forecasts and execution decisions help an owner preserve that foundation while controlling the commitment required to complete the work.
