External PMO support, portfolio governance and owner capability across engagements.

The challenge
Organizations need a practical connection between corporate strategy, capital allocation and day-to-day execution. That connection depends on governance, capable leadership, reliable information and processes that help teams develop and deliver the right projects and transformation initiatives.
External PMO support
Sand Hill acts as an external project management office (PMO) support function, providing project management, project and organizational leadership, governance and system creation. The role connects portfolio decisions with the work required to execute individual projects and organizational transformation.
Translating strategy into governance and systems
Sand Hill translates strategic priorities into portfolio management processes and supporting systems, including stage-gated development, portfolio alignment assessments and project reviews. These structures provide a common basis for evaluating initiatives, establishing responsibilities and governing execution.
Connecting project development with execution
Sand Hill translates strategic objectives into defined project and transformation scopes, develops execution plans and provides leadership through delivery.
Integrated planning, project controls and cost and risk management give owners a basis for evaluating performance, responding to emerging exposure and directing the work toward the intended business results.
Building capability within the owner organization
Sand Hill also trains owner personnel to administer the processes and systems. This builds internal capability to govern portfolios, develop projects and sustain execution discipline within the organization.
The outcome
Following these engagements, owners achieved sustained improvements of five to seven percentage points in annual return on invested capital. The improvements were supported by a more disciplined approach to developing, assessing and prioritizing capital investments, with continued attention to safety, standard capital needs, operability, maintainability and long-term asset condition.
How this work connects
Portfolio management, project development and execution form a connected effort. Governance translates strategy into investment priorities and responsibilities. Project and organizational leadership turn those choices into coordinated action, while internal systems and trained personnel help the owner sustain the resulting capability.
